I have a MF 65 that has a single port, push for external hydraulics, I need to be set up to run a double action cylinder, that reqiuers two ports. Is there a conversion kit or adapter available that would put me in business?

My 65 has the original pump configuration on it and is plumbed so that two one-way cylinders raise the Massey front end loader and one two-way cylinder tilts the bucket. My understanding is that in order to get hydraulic presser to other stuff, the three point hitch needs to be in the up position. This system is fine for my uses but if the loader were being used a lot, the shorter response time available from an auxiliary pump is something I might go after.

The problem with Massey 65's (I have one) is that the internal pump only pumps about 5-6 gals a minute and isn't really up to doing much more than powering the lift arms. Been there, done that. Otherwise, it's a great tractor.

The best solution is to mount a front pump, but that's a good weekend of work and costs a few bucks in steering and front end parts. The next best solution is to use a Prince PTO pump and plumb your controls off that, and use the trans as your hyd. fluid sump.

I am just settnig it up to run a small, low HP round baler, (IH 241) do you think I need more than internal for that?

Before I went to the front pump, I used mine with a smaller JD 4' round baler, a 446 or something like that. It worked, but it it sure was slow going opening up to eject the bale and closing again. If it's going to be a one-time job, you'll get away with it, if it's going to be a regular thing, you'll want the aux pump. Trust me, after you put real hydraulics on this tractor you'll kick yourself for not doing it sooner. Makes it much more useful. One of the best things I ever did equipment-wise.

If you're going to use the PTO regularly, you need to go with a front pump. Most of the tractor parts are available from this site, I got a surplus hyd pump from Surplus Center. The toughest thing to find are the drop arms for the steering spindles so the pitman arm won't interfere with the pump drive when the wheels are turned all the way. Go to the MF tractor section of the site. Lots of info there. I think I spent around $300 for the whole shebang. If you need more info, drop me an email and see if I can help.

The high pressure tap is on the side of the lift cover. Look around and you'll see a plug. If you go that route you'll need to chain up the lift arms to use it or they'll be going up and down every time you pressurize the baler.
