Ford 640 front loader hydraulics

Hello All,

I have a old Ford 640 with a front loader on it that leaks hydraulic fluid from the top seals and the lines on the bottom. The hydraulics are only on the raise and lower forks. The bucket itself is manual dump. My question is how difficult is it to replace the seals and hoses? The forks themselves will come off the tractor easy and I"ve replaced seals in other devices (motorcycle forks, other spring loaded devices). Will those seals be similar? I"ve never replaced hauldraulic hoses before.I"m thinking I should try to buy the entire hose and fitting instead of just trying to replace the leaking fitting. Is there any tips or tricks or special tools I should know about if any one has done this before?

Hoses are simple to replace and if you can do plumbing you can do them since its almost the same stuff just higher pressure. The loader cylinders on the other hand can be a real pain to rebuild and you need to keep things clean and cleaner to do so. I have found most of the time your $$ ahead to have a hyds shop rebuild them because it is easy to nick a seal and then your out the cost of the seal kit and then need to buy another one, but if the shop does that they have to eat there mistake

Don't really know too much about the seals on the rams, but I suppose they are a lot like motorcycle forks. As for the hoses, they are about $30 each custom made at NAPA stores.
