I recently bought a Massey 12 baler for baling straw.The baler had not been used for a few years. I used it to bale about 1000 flax straw bales with little problem. I did break a couple of shear pins, but I assumed this was due to the excess play in the flywheel. I intend on replacing bushings to correct this problem. Changing fields, the shear pin issue became progressively worse. I would break 3 or 4 every 100 bales. I did notice that the plunger was getting tighter and was becoming difficult to roll over by hand. I poured some used oil on the rails and it freed up. The shear pin issue virtualy disappeared. Now I am having problems with the knife not cutting the last section of the bale, causing 2 or more bales to come out together. This is happening about 3 out of 5 bales. (a major problem as it drags bales, breaks bales, and makes it a major hassle to pick with a bale wagon) I did inspect the knives, they seem to be relatively sharp. There seems to be about a 1/4' gap between the knife on the plunger and the fixed knife - is that too much? If so, is there any way to adjust this on a Massey 12? Sorry for the long post!
