Ford 618 blower

I bought another 618 the other day, and was wondering how good a buy I got. I know they don't bring a lot- everyone seems to want the Case/IH 600- but I also know they can unload a 14' box in less than 10 minutes with an 85 h.p. tractor on them. My old one is working just fine, but it has thrown a lot of corn. This one had been advertised in the paper and no takers, so the owner, who knows I like Fords, asked if I was interested. Somewhat newer than my other one by the serial number, and shows less wear. Sold it to me for $100. Good deal? What are they worth in yuor area?

If they are in fact made by Kools like RickB says, they are common as dirt around here, as Kools was made right here in the town next one over.

We ought a Kools for $150 a few years back. It ran good for a while until one night unloading corn it threw a paddle. The next season at a local auction I bought another one identical only a little older and more rust but better shape, for $35. It blows so easy compared to any others we've ever used, no matter the make. Takes corn pretty good with the 1600 Oliver on the PTO.

I think we can unload the 18' boxes in about 10 minutes, maybe 12. All I know is dad can empty the wagon and be back in about the same amount of time it takes me to fill a wagon, unless he's gotta go up the road. the I can stay ahead of him pretty good. When the blower threw the paddle a few years back we borrowed the neighbor's IH 600 to finish the job, as we were buying it off the field from them, they filled the wagons (not by our choice....) it wasn't adjusted very well and it worked the snot outa our Massey 285 compared to the Kools it was running. Put the 1855 Ollie on there and then she really took the corn- almost wide open unloading!!

I've also heard they were made by Kools. If they were, 618's were a later model than the one in your picture, or it was a separate model made to Ford's specs. Wider hopper, different shielding, and both tires inline with the fan. I timed the unlaoding a few years ago, so I don't rememeber exactly what it was, just that it was less than 10 minutes. My cousin was hauling for me, and he could be back for the next load about the same time I had it loaded - just like your set up - unless I was in a filed more than 1/2 mile away. That was the year I bought a Ford 9600 (dyno'ed 140 h.p.) and a 4310 Fox chopper.

Kools made quite a few different models, so it was probably one of the higher capacity ones.

Honestly... to ME a blower would be worth a hundred bucks a tonne. I have no use for one or the silo's they fill...
Seriously though... If you got a decent working blower for a hundred bucks, and it does what you need it to, I think you did quite alright. 100 bucks doesn't buy much anymore.

I don't know what they are worth, but I wish I had a nickle a ton for all the haylage and corn silage I ever ran into the one we had. Made by Kools as I recall. Big, big step up from the Fox it replaced.
