Could someone give me a general range of value for an old 50-bushel PTO driven John Deere spreader in rough but working order? Thanks CP

Here in Maryland people are paying big bucks for spreaders, I'd think you could get from $500-$1000 for it. Like the other guy said, the horse people are driving the prices up. I got really lucky & found an old ground driven Massey Harris N0. 11 for $50. Sitting in the barn & haden't been used for over 20 years, they were going tear the old barn down, thats how I got it.

I gave 250.00 for a rubbertired Case 4 years ago. Had to replace 1 tire. Thought it was cheap as this size usually gos for 500.00 to 750.00 in central Ia.

John Deere never made a spreader as small as 50 bu. and the smallest John Deere PTO spreader was a 125 bu. size, Model N if I remember. Mine is a 95 bu model R and the Model L & H spreaders were ground drive at about 70 bu. The Old Deere horse spreaders were about 60 bu.

JD W was PTO version of 95 bu. R.

There was a guy around here who was repainting some off-brand cheapo ground drive spreaders JD green and yellow and sticking on 218 lawn mower decals. Dealer got curious about why this guy needed so many decal sets and then someone came in looking for parts for one of these things. Corporate got involved and didn't take kindly to somebody fraudulently using their brand image . . . .

The smaller PTO driven spreaders are very popular with the hobby folks, especially the horse folks. I paid $1000 for mine, an old MF18. Wouldn't sell it for twice that, knowing I would be unlikely to be able to replace it for reliability and ease of repair. Its a 70 bushel.

Depends on whether the seller will stand behind it.

(I just couldn't resist that)

I bought a used (1 year old) Mill Creek Non PTO driven spreader, 40 bushel for $1000. Around here the "Horse" people drive up the price of small equipment. If it has a good floor and works well I would say around $1200. You could do a quick paint job for better value. It is a real hard call on price though as it seems that in fall/winter the price goes down. I have a New Holland single axle PTO driven spreader that the axle snaped on and the floor could be replaced and I have seen the in the same condition for $900. Seems that New Hollands and broken axles go hand and hand. My wife has 6 goats, 3 mini donkies and small flock of chickens and turkeys to keep the Mill Creek and the 8n busy for day a week. So maybe the New Holland we meet the cutting torch.
