is there a tool to hold the end of the shaft opposite the nut? it is a B-series with round shaft. the end of the shaft has a few slots in it that look like a special tool should go there. as special as a flat bar with some extra parts added on it anyway. gotta be thin and extra strong though.

I just got the owners manual off ebay. says to use a spanner wrench. something that large can be fabricated in town or your shop if you have one. it also says the spec on the shaft nut is 100 lbs of force on the end of a 72 inch wrench. doesnt sound like much, but it sure gave a fight. got it apart in the meantime with pipe extended pipe wrench handles, heat, heat/cool cylcles, lots of penetrating and vacuum pump oil, and a pry bar wedged into the "bumper." thanks to my uncle for the muscles so i could have a date that weekend. (why do they always think your time off of your job is for them?)

now to find blades...

I had that troube with my 14" JD disc on wheels I took a vise grip and clamped it to one of the disc blades real tight with the disc setting on the ground and when the blades turned so the vice grips hit the ground it broke loose..

it's especially difficult with this one, since the round shaft will turn inside of the blade. I had a broken off blade wedged into a log, standing on the wrench, and it let loose inside that blade and i fell down. wish i was on the clock for that one!

try setting just the gang your working on a big block of wood where all the weight of the disk is put on that gang. a little heat on the nut might help too.

if i could post a pic of it i would. that end of the shaft is pretty much flat and flush against the blade, and about 3-4 inches in diameter, it's called a "bumper T1895". on the other end, using a pipe wrench or etc on the nut, it's possible to spin the shaft within the disk blades without budging the nut. who ever thought a round disk shaft was a good idea???!
