I recently learned that Minneapolis-Moline sold a self-propelled forage harvester called a model 1840. Similarily Oliver sold a self-propelled forage harvester called a model 840 between 1970 and 1976 . They look to be identical (I think) except color of course, and I suspect the White Motor Co. who by then owned both MM and Oliver was behind this. I also believe that White Motor didn't actually make the harvesters as they look similiar to Gehl self propelleds, does anyone know if that is in fact the case ? I have never seen a MM or Oliver or for that matter a Gehl on pictures . They must be scarce as hens teeth as they say.

Thanks for that picture. Apparently the Oliver 840 could be had with any one of three engines (1) a Chrysler 440 gas was standard and sold at $11,200, (2) a GMC gas 478 was optional and sold for $11,430 and (3) a Hercules 478 diesel set you back $ 12,980 head equipment not included in price. A pittance compared to todays prices on JD , NH, and Claas self propelleds.

I've heard it said that Fox built them, and I've heard it said that they just copied Fox so much that the heads will interchange.

I would LOVE to find a SP Oliver some day, doesn't matter what model, if they made more than 1 even. I need to do some more research on the topic.
