Grinding ear corn in field

I have a neighbor that is wanting me to pick corn for him this weekend. His wagons are too tall to go behind my picker (MM320) so we thought that we would just grind the ear corn for his cows as soon as it came out of the field. I have heard now that the ground ear corn will spoil very quickly. Most of the corn in our area has been coming out of the field at 12-14%. Any suggestions? Will we be just getting ourselves into trouble? He was planning on feeding right out of the wagons this winter.

That 12-14% you hear of most likely is Kernal Moisture content not Kernal and Cob content. Cobs could be up to 20-30% Moisture content so would spoil very quickly if ground into feed unless you fed it up quickly.I used to do the same for feed and some times we would get caught not feeding it up fast enough and some would sour.Not a good practice unless you have some Hogs to clean it up.

Are you talking about grinding,cob and all or shelling ? If f it is grinding the problem isn't with the grain but the cob,theym will still be "wet" and spoil the whole loadif not fed right away.
