i bought a 1214 john deere swather and i've noticed in heavier grass it slides sideways, like i'm driving too fast. i'm using a 45 horse tractor which i know is too small but it's all i have right now. what am i doing wrong? any ideas?

Float needs to be set per the manual and light as possible (puts more weight on tires) and drags less on the skid shoes. Run the float so the cutterbar just stays on the ground. Easy to lift at the knockdown bar.

Guards (ledger surface) needs to be sharp as well as sickle so it is not trying to pull crop out of the ground.

thanks, i just got a manual and was reading about that so i'll give that a try. i ended up last night just keeping it right behind the tractor to finish but that leaves some tracks.
