Informal poll here: What do you pay for fertilizer in you area? I'll start:

Generic 16-4-8 is $352/ton delivered in 50lb bags.

Another place has slow release 16-4-8 with iron/minerals at $396/ton in 50lb bags plus $35 delivery.

chicken manure will increase weed seed, rob your soil of micro-nutrients and load it up in phosphorus. Who wants a couple 100 ton to spread on their ground? Not me!

yeah, go ahead and sow all that wild flower seed and see what the fall brings you. this country, n al, is run over with a little yellow weed that wasn't here until the local chicken house gave away the manure for free, just to have some place to spread it. if your going to use it pile it up and cover it up with black plastic for a year, keeping it turned real reguar with a front end loader, the broadcast it. newer checmicals may take care of the problem weeds that show up, but if any of it get in a fence row where it doesn't get spread, you'd better watch out!

Probably not too much in the manure that a blast of MCPA or Banvel won't fix, depending on what crop is going in...
One thing I believe you will see in the very near future is a much greater value placed on manure for nutrients. Chemical fertilizer continues to rise in price at an astronomical rate. Eventually more people will see the value in manure and in proper management of it rather than looking at it as a waste product that must be disposed of. Composting may be part of that, but there is and will be a lot of raw manure spread, and the chemicals will fix the weeds...
That's how I see it anyway.

Manure of all types needs to be managed properly. Weeds will come and go any where, from many sources. Thay say some seeds can lay dormant for 60+ years, dont think chicken producers are responsible for that. Ditches, unmanaged properties, decorative plants and flowers brought in from who knows what countries over the last 100 years are the source of weeds problems , not chicken manure from growers. Every land owner should manage weeds on their property. Doesnt (1) pigweed produce something like 60,000 seeds, how many of them do you have within a mile of your property????

Geeze that strikes me as steep per pound of actual nutrient.

I buy everything in bulk. Right now (today) local spot market here for

ammonium nitrate (34-0-0)is $395 a ton
Diammonium Phosphate (18-46-0)$430 per ton
muriate of potash (0-0-60) $450 per ton

Last winter I paid 340, 415, 320 respectively for a prepaid order of 10 tons am nitrate, 5 tons DAP, and 10 tons of muriate. With pickup they charge 15 for a spreador buggy, or 35 plus 2 an acre to spread it off the truck.

I have close to 300 tons of chicken manure, $2000, well that is what I will be asking for it during cleanout in December. If I cant get it I have about 100 acres I'll use it on and plant corn.
