Weather forecast is for good baling weather so I've got hay on the ground, short as it is. Any tips for baling small squares with a NH baler when the grass hay is only about 6 or 8 inches long?

Will sure beat snowballs, as my Dad always said.

Thanks

with a side delivery rake turn left at every corner for four or five rounds and then turn around at one corner and go back to where you turn at the corners to the right. that builds up a big windrow and it may be slower bailing, but with that much hay in a windrow you don't have as many trips to make around the field and the bigger windrows make bailing easier in short grass. still may have to bale when there is a little dew still on or late in the afternoon when its starting to first fall.

Here in the North West corner of Ohio I don't rake the windrows very large this time of year because of the heavy dew. It just never seems to get dry enough. The smaller windrows seen to get dry before the dew starts to set back in.

I am amazed at how your bales are stacking themselves on the wagon.... they look stacked nice and neat but no person stacking.

Can you tell me how you do that, sure would make my life easier!!!!

I"m new but short grass hay is really tough to get started on a round baler. I found that if i rake when still damp , not wet but not totally dry i can get it started a little bit easier. When it is to dry it just turns to dust and get behind belts. I may be wrong but the rolls turned out great and cure out good. My horses loved it. It smelled good after three weeks in field.

Any input from my stand point is purely rookie inspired. any further input will be well appreciated.

Hope i didnt give bad advice.

Rake it so the hay is feeding into the chamber even and constant. If that is not possible adjust your driving speed to do so.
