On a 16 A mower, does anyone know where the two half-round end pieces on the sickle end of the pitman arm could be found, the ones on my mower are about shot. Cutting the back cut on the last field, they pulled off the ball on the sickle, and are deformed to the point that they will no longer hold on to the ball. This will be a winter repair project, and is not a rush project. I am half way between Duluth, MN and Fargo, ND for location, does anyone know of salvage yards that might have IH mowers parts could be gotten from, or maybe a parts mower sitting somewhere in N central MN? Thanks in advance badpenny

badpenny, they are available from IH dealers. Call Brad Marshall, he will send them to you. They are about 20 bucks each. 1-888-824-0544. I know for ceartain that they are available. I ordered new ones for 2 of my mowers about 3 months ago.

Thanks, that's a good place to start. Casting #'s on mine are M53 and M54, held together by a bolt, not a spring latch, and may not be original to this mower.

My parts book is not avaible right now but I think that bolt clamp is the orignal style and they worked good. Then the manufactures decided to change and went to the spring clamp that may hold the correct tension on the ball easier for someone that doesent know what they are doing but is a lot harder to loosen to change sycle bars. I don't think the orignal bolt style are avaible anymore at anyplace. 50 year ago I had a Deere that I had to replace the clamps on and all I could get at that time were the new spring loaded that I did not like as too hard to use but I had no choice.

The IH works a lot easier than the JD. They flip over instead of having to be slid back. The JD will work on an IH mower though. I had one on my 31.

What I have used most was Oliver and they are*!! to change the knife in. Had a Coop that used the bolt and it was easy. That Deere I had was a No. 2 horse mower; the first piece of machinery I ever owned; got 4 McC horse mowers setting here now to fix up for shows if I ever get the time and money, also a McC 27 mower I got just for parts on those horse mowers. Also have 3 Deere; 2 no. 5 & 1 no.8 for shows and a Moline and 3 Dearborn mowers. Grew up using a David Bradley horse mower on rubber.

I forgot to say, it may just be the latch that locks them down. If it has sprawled out it doesn't draw the two parts together enough to keep them on. You should get that while you are at it. He has those and the spring as well.
