Ford 140 3-Bottom Mounted

The other day, someone told me that the Ford plows, like my '70s era 140, were built by someone else, not Ford. Never heard that before. He couldn't recall who that "someone else" was. If true, any of you know? It's a good mounted plow. I've used it as a two and a three bottom. Thanks.

Ford used Oliver bottoms for a while, and judging from the ones I've seen it was the same style they used from basically the 60's on up into the much newer White plows.

Here's a picture of our 546 4-16 semi-mounted plow. Uses the same bottoms as our 565 3-16 semi-mounted (early 60's model, came with our 1600), only this one is a bit newer, maybe by about 5-10 years.

Hi Don , How do you like that clod buster bar ? Would it be worth while for me to find one for using on plow days ? I don't use my plow except for fun . Maybe I should ask what it is usually used for ( corn , beans , sod ) ? Thanks for any info . Take care ! ...Randy

Randy, Those harrows are only to be used with spring plowing unless you are fall plowing to plant right away, do not use for leaving the ground lay over the winter. On ground to lay over winter you want it laying rough so it will collect and soak in more moisture and mellow out over winter. To use for fall plowing to leave lay over winter they smooth things down too much that instead of allowing the moisture in it will cause the ground to form a tight hard crust for spring instead of being mellow. I have a 3 bar yet but no plow to use it on, I converted mine to use on the back of the disc. Also in spring behind a chisel so for a smother ride.

It came on the plow when we got it, but for spring plowing it does help. For fall plowing, it really doesn't matter if it's on or not. If you've got some ground that plows hard it won't touch it at all, but if you've got some patches that plow fairly easy it'll break up some of the clumps. We've got a few fields we can only plow in 2nd gear with our 1855 and that plow, and those fields aren't phased by the buster bar.

I guess it works best for us when plowing under a hay field in the spring.

I think lots of Ford plows were built by Pittsburg plow works. Not sure about yours, but it is a real posibility

Hey Geordeky , did you want to make sure we saw your reply ? Or do you have a virus causing triple remarks or else your finger was stuck on the button ? I've heard of 2 companies that made the implements for Ford but Pittsburgh wasn't one of them . But I don't remember the company names - sorry . You may be right though George . God bless, Ken

Don't know, but the Ford dealer told me years ago that a 101 I had was a Pittsburg. May not be though.
