NH 660 vs 664 round balers

Hello,
I was wondering if anyone could tell me if the 664 round baler is more reliable and durable than the 660. Looking to upgrade my old 851 with a belt baler but wasn't sure NH had all the kinks out of the belt system with the 660. How do these compare in reliability to the JD 530, 535? I am baling mostly in hill country.

One more thing, the pickup on the 664s and 688s is better. Nothing wrong with the 660 pickup but the newer ones are a better design.

Both are very good balers. 95% plus parts are identical. Most will have had enough bales through them that how the previous owner treated them will be the biggest factor in their reliability. Personal preference is the auto wrap. I don't think the 660 came with net wrap, but maybe the 664 did. If not then you will need to find a 688. Good luck.

Thank you all for all the help. been checking and the used NH belt balers seem a little less expensive than the same size JD. Would sure like to replace the old 851 though. Will probably keep her for a spare. YC

The major mechanical differences between a 660 and 664 are mostly related to the bearings and supports in the apron rolls themselves. Most deficiencies in the early design has been updated with later level parts by now. A twine-only Autowrap 660 would probably be just as good as a similarly equipped 664 in like condition. 664 balers with Bale Command, twine and netwrap or Bale Command and twine only would hold an advantage over a similarly equipped 660 due to the more advanced electronic package it carries.

Hello,
It seems as if a belt baler makes a tighter bale. Also I would like to possibly find a net wrap baler, as there would be less loss from the rainey weather of SE Ohio. All our hay sits outside.
