JD 350 rake pto conversion

I have a 'semi-integral' (trailer type) JD 350 hay rake that I intend to convert to 3pt. The manual shows the three point version as having two caster wheels, same as the trailer type. Someone suggested I remove them and I really don't see what purpose they would serve on a 3pt. I'd appreciate your opinions and suggestions.

I converted my 350 to three point about 40 years ago. That made a much better rake out of it.
You have to have the wheels on it The wheels have to swivel. Take the casting that is on top of the spindle off, turn it to point back and put the pin back in. And never back up without raising the rake up. I use mine on pto. works good.

How large should the hydraulic motor be? Do you size it to match the tractor or the rake?

By all means, leave the wheels on the rake.I always want to use a hydraulic motor to drive the basket in place of the PTO. That way the reel speed could match what it needs to be regardless of the ground speed. Would also give you the option to ted with it.
