Hello everyone, I have a 1965 cub tractor, which was running fine at the beginning of summer. However, I have no oil pressure now. What could be the problem? I have read all the suggestions in the previous emails pertaining to low oil pressure, but still no luck. Anyone have some other ideas of what the problem could be? I certainly would love to hear from you. Thanks, Bette

The Cubs are known for losing their oil pressure.
I have always thought it was the way the oil pump is installed. Most tractor engines have the oil pump installed directly below the engine in a vertical plane. Then the pickup screen on the pump is submerged in the oil sump.

The Cub's pump is mounted at the rear of of the engine as George has described and there's not much you can do about it. There are a few things
to try to see if the pressure improves. The Cub owners that post on here came up with this fix and has worked in most cases.

1. Remove the allenhead screw at the back left side of the engine block and add oil with a squirt can.
2. Remove the oil filter cap and fill the housing with oil and then replace the top. Then see if the pressure improves when you start the tractor. I wouldn't run it very long if there's no pressure you can do serious damage to the engine. Hal

Did you try a test gauge on it? If it isn't pumping oil, your oil pump is shot, but you will need to install a test gauge to find this out. It would help if you would tell us what you have done and the exact reading on your gauge if any. I still suspect a faulty gauge. Could be a clooged intake screen on the suction tube. You need to remove the oil pan to access this. If pump is at fault the tractor will have to be split and the flywheel removed to get to the pump.
