I have a 474 and it is a darn good machine. Good guards and knifes and I can mow at 5mph all day long. I"ve had it for quite a while and other than a recent problem with a wobble shaft, it"s been a rock. The rolls are almost perfect considering the age. The 474 is a completely different design than a 467, and newer also. If it is a 474, check the wobble box for any play, and make sure the rolls are good. Other than those two VERY expensive parts, the rest of the machine is pretty easy to deal with, and so far for me, every part I"ve needed has been available. If it"s in good shape and doesn"t need anything it would go for around $2000 around my neck of the woods.

Rolls will get wrapped up if you let the PTO slow down or stop forward motion of the tractor in thick hay. My son drives mine like it ain't his, covers a lot of ground with very few problems. P.S. it ain't his!

If it's a seven footer, then it is most likely a New Holland 467. In average condition around here in the Upper Midwest, you can expect to pay from $1200 to $1500 (figuring everything is functional and all belts and chains are in order). You will want to inspect the bearings in the wobble (that drives the sickle bar). If those are on the way out, removing the wobble can be a bit of a chore if not having done it before.

Other than that, they are a pretty hardy built piece of equipment and should offer you years of service if properly maintained.

One other item of note is to check the wear and tear on the conditioners. They are no longer available for the 467, so that is something to keep in mind.

Good luck!

Sorry I didn't cover your other questions, but I would check the tension on the conditioners. I'm sure that's one of the reasons grass/hay will tend to get wound up on it.

Regarding parts, to the best of my knowledge other than the conditioners, you can still get almost all the common parts on that unit. In the past I have purchased sickle bar bushings, bearings for the wobble, new belts, and chain drive gears with no hiccups whatsoever.
