Can I use a rototolier on my 8n? Any suggestions? I am planting clover and oats in a field that hasn't been planted in 60 years.

Thanks for the input. It seems to best look for a 2 plow for it. Any ideas on the Seaman rototiller? I searched for it .. not much info on them .

If you have a tiller that you can change the speeds in it's gearbox then you should be able to. Louis Bromfield who wrote several books about his farm used one behind his ford/fergies.The brand he used was call Seaman tiller.I'm considering trying a tiller with my d17 allis with 8 speeds. If you can get one that has a variety of blades available i think would help. There was a guy in our area who did gardens and and landscaping with a mf 135 and i think a howard rotovator with J shaped tines. Well actually the tine was not a full L or J it was like a J shape with most of the Hook part missing. We ran it thru 10' tall corn stalks to try it and it was great! So I've been keeping that idea in the back of my mind to try in future.

Tim, the 135 has live power on it, and goes a lot slower than an 8N.

Rototillers do not work good in sod ground. Ground needs to be plowed first. Like others said the 8N won't do it anyhow.

Nope ground speed on an 8N is to fast to be able to use a tiller. What you need to use is a plow and disk with that tractor. Tillers need a very slow moving tractor to do any good other wise they will just skip all over the top of the ground

Sorry I misread 60 years for 60 acres. If it's that old it will probably really be too hard for a 8n and a rototiller to do any good.

The general consensus will be no. The 8n will be too fast in first gear and you have no live power as well. If you have a (I think) howard aux. Transmission it would slow it down without slowing down the PTO. Sherman transmission slow down the ground speed and the pto. Most people will probably suggest a 2 bottom plow and a disk. It will take you a long time to do 60 acres with a 8n but it's certainly doable.
