While researching information on the old Ford 535 mower conditioners, I found that they were made by new Idea and and sold as Massey Ferguson. But I found two different MF models mentioned in different YTMAG discussions. Can some one clarify whether a 535 ford/290 NI is comparable to a Massey 81 or 91? Are they just different sizes of the same machine? Also, were Ford and New Idea units offered in different sizes, were their designations different and what were they? Just want to be clear. Thanks.

I did some searching on ebay with the numbers given, and the 91 doesn't come up with anything but the 81 haytender does- it's the exact same thing as the NI 290 and Ford 535 haybines from the picture, and I never herad of NI making a 7' version, but I could be wrong. They would have all been made by NI

I believe it was MF Haytender 91.

I found two different references to the Ford and the Massey being contract built by New Idea. There was a link on one of the YTMAG replies that had photos of sales literature for all three and they are identical. The only discrepancy I found was the Massey designation. In one thread it was referred to as a 91 and as an 81 in another. If any one can clarify this it would be great.

I've found reference to Massey using the same sickle, but I've never seen or heard of the NI 290 being a Massey model. I am interested if anybody can say for sure though.

The 535/290's are all 9' wide.
