I, recently bought at auction an old horse drawn cultivator (???) made by JOHSTON HARVESTOR CO., made in BATAVIA, NEW YORK. I, would like to try to restore it. Does anyone know where I, might find some info. on it?

Johnston Harvester Co. Batavia, NY sold reaper-binders under their name in the early 1900s. These were identical to the Massey-Harris No. 5 binder and the owners manuals appeared to be the Massey manual with the cover name changed. (badge engineering)

Gene, In 1910 Massey Ferguson purch controlling
interest in that company. This was the first USA
company had an interest in. Johnston still operated under their name also. But it may help
find info. More info seems to be available under
the harvestor equipment. Good luck, Chuck

Gene - I'd try googleing Batavia NY. Get in touch with their Chamber of Commerce to get a history of this business. I did a similar search a few years ago about a particular pocket watch I have the was produced by a jeweller in St. Catharines Ont.Actually got the whole history of that particular business although it had been out of business for generations. Worth a try !!
