Looking to make a stand for my post hole drill. 3 pt hitch type. I am tired of wrestling the thing on and off by myself and I am thinking a stand might make it easier(safer). Any one have any insight or advice? Anyone out there ever make one before? Any pics? Thanks.

Don't worry about moisture and rust. I have done as Jim B. suggests and left the auger in the hole for over a year with no problems. I live in VA where we used to have rain!

i have a chain hanging from the top plate on a side shed that i hang mine on. i use a second chain to wrap around the gear box and hook it back to itself on the sides to form a small loop right over the gear box. just hook the chain hanging from the plate to the loop and release pressure on tractor so chain is supporting the unit. disconnect and pivot unit back up under the overhang and remove the drive shaft. i remove all my drive shafts from everything i own and lock them up. it not only keeps somebody from just walking by and picking up what ever they can to sell for scrap, but it also at least protects one joint from the elements.

If yours is like mine (standard 3pt mount Bush Hog brand) I've found it MUCH easier to mount with the auger off. I remove the auger then take the digger off the tractor.

If you don't mind leaving it outside....just run 'er in the ground a couple/three turns, dis-connect from your three point and leave it there until you need it again !!
Best of luck to 'ya !! Jim B.

Thanks Jim, I thought of that but I am concerned about the moisture in the ground here in PA really rusting the thing badly,
