Years ago I remember watching a "47" pulled behind an old Minne Mo and rocking back and forth with each slow stroke. He would get off and tie each bale in the chamber when he heard it try to tie.
It was probly junk when he got it. He worked with that kind of stuff all around the farm.

the 47 baler is a very good baler. Just like any other baler the knotters need to be sett to the book. I did that and baled over 1400 bales before it missed one.

Yes the 47 is an excellent baler if in good operating condition. There are two different sets of knotters that were used on them. The old style McCormick Deering knotter like what is on NH,Ford and maybe a few others and the IH All Twine knotters. Both are OK. The All Twine is different than any other knotter and few folks will work on them. They are quite simple and easy to work on and or adjust. Lot less moving parts than the old style.

I HAD A MODEL 46 I THINK THEY HAVE THE SAME KNOTTERS . IF IT WAS GIVEN TO YOU IT PROBABLY IS A "KNOTLESS" MODEL LIKE MINE. IF IT TIES THEY ARE A GOOD BALER IF IT DOESNT IT PROBABLY NEVER WILL. I WOULD RUN AWAY FAST AND FIND A GOOD JD 14T OR 24T THEY HAVE MUCH BETTER KNOTTERS AND ARE FAIRLY EASY TO COME BY. JUST MY OPINION
