Just got back from the local auction. Still in shock.
$65 for large round mixed. $5-$7 for fair to middlin' small square Timothy. @nd cut alfalfa $7-8.

Hi, Go price fertilizer,diesel fuel,weed killer and baling twine and you will know why hay went up, all have doubled or trippled in the last few years. Bill in southern Md

I got $4 for quality coastal small bales. I am looking at $40 or $45 for my 4x5 round bales. I see advertised prices from $25 to $50 on the round.

They guy I bale for is selling first cutting clover and timothy for 2.50/small squares. Quality is average. It's almost gone. He's going to hold onto the second cutting, it seems like it's going to be gold here in central Oh. this winter.

NW Colo
small bales for horse 160-200 per ton FOB some headed to Florida.
Large rounds 120 to 140 per ton.
Large Squares 130 to 160.
In the field standing 80 to 100.
No poorer Quality hay in put in small bales.if it isnt good it goes to large bales

Sold some today. 5x5 rounds of mixed, mostly fescue for $25 per bale. Squares of the same for $2.50. each. He took every big bale I had, and 250 of my squares. Going rate seems to be around $30 each. Some are asking $40

Sounds a little too cheap on your price. Around here the custom balers get 18 - 20 per 4 X 5 round bale for cutting raking and baling, leave in field. And your 5 X 5 has 25 percent more hay. Tom

You are probably right, but here in MO hay prices in my opinion have been depressed (just my opinion) for quite some time. Just a couple years ago people were selling squares for $1 per bale. I had no choice but sell it for that or not sell. This barely paid for my fuel, and expenses, (forget wear and tear on equipment), and I run a very lean operation. Since the gentleman bought some squares as well, I sold the rounds for a little less, and this cleans out my rounds. He said he is paying $2.50 per mile for trucking and hauling they hay over an hour away so it will get expensive just getting them there. The guy with the trailer says he can haul over 20 on a load. I will have to see to believe as these are probably a little over 5' bales baled with a NH 850 baler, and he said he had a 28 foot trailer.

In W.Mass., hay is about $25-$40 round bales and the small squares are all over the place; $2-3.50 on the wagon, good, clean timothy-clover,$4-6.00 at the barn.(I"ve read about the horses, it"s like George says and thier doing the same thing around here- leavin the horse with barn owner! cats are one thing, but what do you with a horse nobody wants?

Hay prices in Maine are averaging $3 per sqaure bale of good hay and $25 for 4x4 rounds. Guess we"re always the cheap place!!

WOW, please come get hay here in northern alberta.
I sell you all you need, good 5x6 round alphalpha and alph/grass mix.
We can't even give it away around here.
The alphalpha pellet plant went belly up last fall,and last years hay bales are still sitting in the fields

I put out 66 round bales today, first cut, barn stored, 4x4's at $40 each and they went within the hour. Squares at $5.00 self loaded and hauled.

Right now I could probably get $50 on the rounds if I could find them. Sure would like to find some of that hay for $20 within a 4-5 hour drive.

In NE Texas round bales are $25 and up.

At the feed stores around Dallas, $85 and up.

Cut and baled our meadow last week and got 30 round bales of coastal/cheyenne bermuda.

Should get another cutting in September.

Here in Missouri prices are all over the place. Saw an ad the other day for rounds in the filed for $20 each and then saw another one for $50 each. Sure glad I don't have to buy hay or I would be in big trouble. I'll probably be able to sell enough again this year to pay for fuel and twine again

80 ton on plain grass in MO. Just bought some supreme Alf in big sq for 150 ton and I hauled. I heard a story from the east. Some goverment land where people can take their horses to ride. They ck you when you go in and when you come back out they see that you brought all your horses back out.

Want to bet. Just go to the strip mines of eastern KY hundreds of horses have been abandoned there. Looks like out west now days. Horses and Elk running everywhere. I have had 4 left on me by folks claiming to just want a place to board them. They say they will pay by the month. I got paid one month and the horses. My neighbor has had a lot more than that left to him. Until the killer market is opened back up this will continue.

Here in the deep south they are working another scam to get rid of unwanted horses. Take them to the horse sale, leave them, if they sell good if not just leave them and dont pick them back up. Its a sad state were in with unwanted horses but like Georgeky said until the killer market is opened up its only gonna get worse.

You can't feed 5 dollar a bale hay to a 50 dollar horse. The country is overrun with old plug horses and nowhere to go with them. Fine example of what tree hugging, don't shoot nothing do gooders do.

If they would open the killer market back up the Japanese would eat all the old nags. We use to buy old thin broke down nags and put them out on grass for 3 or 4 months then sell to the Japanese killers and made pretty good money on them. I am just cruel that way. Kept the old plug horse population in check though.

people are selling there cattle around here in southern tn,turning there horses lose.
i even seen an ostrege in the middle of no where the other day.hay around here is around 30- 60 a 5x5 roll if u can find any.
starting to look like a desert around here,
every thing is about brown.been over 100 the past week and heat index around 110-115, and over 20 inches below on rainfall for the year.
be glad to see some rain and cooler temps.

I'm in Tenn also, and we just finished putting up
almost 1000 small sq bales and trying to get 28 4x5 rnd bales into the same barn, wondering if the second floor will hold up. Got about $4 in the sq bales and $50 in the rnd bales, but that's all we could find locally, should be enough to get through winter.
