The others have good advice.

What row spacing is your corn planter set on? You said 7 rows, that is not normal so you musta put something together. The one row will follow down to 20 inches or so, the 30 or 38 inch models can't cope with more than 3 inches or so off if you want to do a good job in less than ideal conditions.

George gave most of the key points. Some company out East (in Pennsylvania I believe) makes new pickers similar to the NI models and also parts that will fit NI pickers. Probably pretty expensive. Someone posted the information a while back and I made a copy. If necessary will find and post the information. Others had commented that the newer Deere has a better snapping roll design which I agree with (uses corn head style snapping plates), but in practice I've not seen any significant difference, if the NI is adjusted correctly.
Our past experience is that ground ear corn is a sure winner for feeding cattle. No sense in feeding cob to the hogs, so you will need to shell the cribed corn for hog feed. I've got a NI 314 sheller not being used, but it is pretty small if yields are above 150 bu/acre. Better upgrade to the model 329 sheller if you expect high yields, which is what I use on my 3 row 330. If you go with the two row, be sure to get the 12 row husking bed, the 8 row is too small for yields above 110 bu/acre. If you don't intend to do any field shelling, then go with the single row. It will have plenty of capacity for 20 acres

The NI 323 is a real outfit and will pick 150+ corn. They can not be fitted with a sheller, but the 324 2 row can be. It is a wide row model. There is also a narrow row model I believe a 325 that can be fitted with a sheller as well. The worst trouble is that no new ones have been sold in the US since 83. Most are worn out now. There are some good ones left, so make sure and look them over good before buyiong one.

I had an early 1 made for 70 bu corn. If you get 1 make sure it is a later model. I think you could find a cornhead for about the same price as a late model picker, will be less trouble too.
and far faster.
