Am restoring the above mentioned mower. Anyone have a few pics I can look at. Need to know the year and the color scheme of this fine old mower. We have it working and now it needs paint. Thanks, Maestro

Maestro,

I am also restoring a McCormick Deering New 4 Horse Drawn Mower.

They were manufactured by McCormick-Deering/IHC from 1896-1915.

The best source that I found (and I purchased it on E-Bay) for a parts listing is the following:

MR-1
McCormick (and McCormick- Deering)

Parts Catalog

Mowers

(Discontinued Models)

The Wisconsin Historical Society is the best source for all IHC information.

The best source that I found for paint is the following:

You can also puchase from the Wisconsin Historical Society a photo copy of the following:

Directions for setting up and operating the McCormick New 4, and New Big 4 Mowers with parts list and illustrations of repair parts.

It's dated: McC 726 80M-8-25-09

They are not cheap for photocopies and/or reproductions of material.

Good luck with your restoration project. third party image

Well in the part of the last Century your Mower was Mfg. IHC was a big user of Battleship Grey Paint so that would be my first choice but I may be wrong. It has happened before. The Nelson Dewey State Museum at Dickeyville Wisc. has one as I hauled it and a McCormick Reaper to them from the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago back in 1965. Don't have a clue if it is still displayed or not but it was painted entirely in Battleship Grey. Maybe IHC got a Job lot of Grey Paint after WW1.

That model mower ended production either in or just before 1915 and the one I have is red and if I remember correctly cream wheels. There is a site, search the archives, for paint colors.
