Need replacement PTO shaft locking pin.

Thanks to the wonderful people here, I found the cause of my PTO shaft popping off while mowing. My locking pin has a nice flat spot worn in it. After mowing a while, the pin vibrates around until it hits the flat spot and off comes the shaft.

I took it into Tractor Supply to match it up and they are totally out of all locking pins with no resupply in sight. So, I can't even tell what part number it matches up to.

Let me describe it. The pin starts out at something like 1/2" diameter. About 2/3 the way down, it drops to about 3/8" diameter. The spring rides on the smaller part. The small diameter end sticks out the opposite side of the yoke and is held by a little half moon clip. Does this sound familiar to anyone? If anybody has an on-line source with pictures (or drawings) I would appreciate it. Thanks.

If you are talking about a pin with a wire bail.. I'd think you can get it at any farm store..

Can you post a drawing?

as a temporary cure - just take the push pin all out - slide the pto yoke on the tractor as far as it normally goes so it lines up - then stick a bolt in the hole where the shaft locking pin goes in - get the right sizze - put a nut on - and you are good to go

I found the value site, but nothing turned up in the search. Unfortunately, there is a shortage of ag type dealers in this area. It looks like I'll have to take a drive up to the John Deere dealer to see if he has something or I'll have to wait until Tractor Supply decides to restock their store.

There's a few different types of those yolks and lock pins. Take it to a local farm equipment dealer. They should have something in stock. Otherwise, have the dealer for your particular machine look up the part for that shaft and order it.
I'd suspect that it's for the older square Spicer shaft, and not difficult to get...

Ask for a tractor yoke repair kit at any NAPA store or any auto parts store that handles Precision U-joints. Part # 1503 or 1504. Take the old one along for measurements. Ozarker

Seems I get blocked out at this site whenever I try to list helpful on-line places that have such things.

Have you tried the on-line store of the name you mentioned?

There is also a store of Value & it is Built well. V-B doesn't have all those letters in it. If you can figure it out, good. If you can't, sorry, my messages get blanked out if I try to spell it out.


Any other stores around your area with 'Fleet or 'farm' in the name may have them.

Most implement dealers also will have a parts bin, doesn't matter the color of their tractors, if they are an ag dealer, should have them.
