I have a 650 round baler with autowrap twine. The twine arms will drop into place fine, but when they start moving towards the outside of the bale they will hang up. They will "stall" in one location, then all of a sudden start moving again. I have greased everything, and I dont see anything that appears broken. Any ideas??

Is the belt in good shape and tight enough?

That sounds like the breakaway clutches have tripped and the arms are out of time with the auto wrap sequence.

Do the arms park correctly?

Allan

Me too....

A couple of things. The cross arms that drive the twin arms can get bent and cause this. They rub together. I've taken these out and straightned them to correct in the past. Telescoping tubes can bind as can the bushings on the tubes. Lastly, the shield that keeps hay off the back side of the twine arm mechanism can get bent and cause the shield to interfere with the arm drive.

Right now I've got some binding where I replaced the arm ends (paint, decal residue, etc). I keep a can of PB blaster or WD 40 in the tractor cab. About every 30 bales I soak the arm ends adn drive bushings with it and everything keeps working fine. To trouble shoot you almost need to take the drive lose and pull by hand to locate the problem.

David, Good to hear from you again. I trust hay is in full gear at your place. We dont have enough water around here to grow much. Thanks for your insight. I think you are right that it may be a grime/lubrication/rubbing issue because it wont work right for the first 2 bales, then it works fine. I will have to look into it...

I wish it were. Just too dry, and too hot the past few days. I'm forcing some to 'make' on square bales, if the price wasnt so high Im not sure it would pay the fuel bill. 3rd cutting is running about 16 bales per acre. Hoping for some fall rains to make some decent rolling hay. I'm gambling, put on $5000 of ammonium nitrate on some grass fields in the hopes it will make better fall hay if we can get some water.
