What is the horsepower needed to pull a JD 510 Baler, I have a Kubota m4900 4x4, also this blaer has 4 remotes lines and amy tractor only has two remote outlets, can you run the baler and only use the hoses as needed, ie the lift door when time to dump, and the tie hoses when its time to tie? And does $ 1200 sound like a fair price fora one owner baler in pretty fair consition?

I used to run a 510 behind my Oliver 1600 (60 hp), and never ran out of power. I wouldn't really recommend this baler, though, because of the inconvenience of the closed throat design. I would say $500 would be a fair price for one of these. Once I got good at waiting until my hay was absolutely dry, I stopped having hay wrapping problems. My main complaint with the baler was that it just didn't make tight bales. My baler also had the block that philip d mentions to allow it to work with 1 hydraulic circuit.

If you don't drink you will after trying to bale with one of those closed throat plugging up SOB's.

The seller is getting a good deal to get that much for the old style baler - they ain't too good.

You would need to shift the hyd hoses _every_ bale - reconsider that idea!!! No way. You could, for $$$, buy a hyd port doubler that will operate 2 (or more) hyd port sets from your one set on the tractor. You're looking at $700 or so tho.

Consider a better baler, or one with electric or manual tie.

Are you paying $1200 for the baler, or are they paying you to take it off their hands? A 510 Deere is a very poor example of a round baler. I would pass on it.

we used to have a 410 baler,it had a block on it with a pull rope to shift from tying to door openeing, allowning for only one set of remotes. The 410 ran no problem with 45 hp.If the 510 is just a larger version of the 410,they are a pretty hard baler to run. They plug very easily.pd
