I broke the spring inside the clutch ring assembly on the knotter shaft that trips the knotters to tie once the measuring wheel arm fully lifts. I"ve replaced the spring and re-timed the baler several times following the manual instructions but I can"t seem to get it rite. The needles enter the chamber too soon and cause the plunger stop to engage. :~( Any ideas what I"m doing wrong?
Thanks for your help.

I just went through the timing process with my 14T last month. I must have timed the dang thing 40 times before it was correct.

I'm assuming that you are following the whole timing process that is outlined in the manual, correct? So, with the face of the plunger head half way through the first slot in the bale chamber, turn the knotter drive clutch clockwise until it catches the drive dog. Now install the knotter chain. You can turn the knotter drive counter clockwise just a very small amount if you need to, to attach the connecting link on the chain. Now trip the knotter and MANUALLY run it rhough a tying cycle. Watch the needles and when they start moving, keep on checking in the bale chamber until the tips of the needles are flush with the top of the strips in the bale case. When they are flush, measure the distance between the face of the plunger head and the tip of the needles. I believe this measurement should be somewhere between and inch to 2.25" The closer to the inch measurement, the better. If you can't get this right, you can adjust the main drive chain a link or two to get the needle spacing correct, BUT, be aware that this will also affect your feeder finger adjustment. If you still are having problems, you can adjust the needle lift arm too. I hope this made sense! I would recommend that if you are still having troubles, replace all of your chains (with the correct links per the parts manual!) and try it again. Also check all shear pins on the shafts and gears to make sure that they are not sheared.

This process is kind of tough to explain on the internet. Let us know how it goes. Good luck!

Well, the old girl punched out about a 100 bales without a miss - I guess I did something rite! :D :D I hope I don't go on tripping myself up with goofy mistakes - I guess it's the old "live and learn" thing.
Thanks again for your help.

That's great! I'm glad it went well for you.
Those are good old balers.

Thanks OldNew. :~) I fiqured I was misreading the manual. Your post turned on the lite! In re-reading instruction #8 I now realize I misinterpreted the note on the LH vs. RH side of the machine. :~( My common sense tells me to stand on the twine box/pickup box side of the baler closest to the clutch and turn it ccw but page #1 tells me I don't know my left from my rite! :D :D I was on the bride's side when I should have been on the groom's side. Something tells me when I try it in the morning it will work OK - stay tuned.

I'm glad my post re-taught you left from right. Now I just hope you haven't forgotten which way is up or down!;) I will tell you one thing, it is the best feeling in the world after you go through working on that old baler and take it to the field and it starts popping out nice square, tight bales one after the other! That is a real feeling of accomplishment! After all, those balers aren't the most simple machines to work on!
Hope you make out good!

It should be all good now - knowing left from rite made the difference. :~) The only thing extra I did was move the main drive chain back one link to get the proper clearance (1" - 2 1/2") between the needle tips (when flush with the top of the groove of the baler case floor) and the plunger face.
Now if the weather would co-operate I could go baling!

BTW, I think the problem is I'm misreading the "Timing the Baler" instruction #8, page 23. I'm not managing to get the knotter drive chain installed correctly relative to the position of the clutch ring. I'm sure the plunger is in the rite position along with the feeder tooth, aka the packing fingers.
