NH 65 SQUARE BALER KNOT PROBLEMS

THE KNOTER ON THE PICKUP SIDE OF BALER AS A PROBLEM. JUST REPLACED BILL HOOK WITH A NEW ONE AND HAVE ADJUSTED THE SPRING ON THE SIDE OF BILLHOOK IN AND OUT WITH OUT CHANGEING THE PROBLEM. THE PROBLEMS IS THE KNOT GETS STUCK ON THE BILL HOOK 9 OUT OF 10 TIMES. THE KNOT IS GOOD IT JUST GETS STUCK ON BILLHOOK. ALL KNIFES ARE SHARP. SOMEONE TOLD ME IT MIGHT BE THAT THE KNIFE ARM IS OUT ALINEMENT?? HOW DO YOU ADJUST THIS?? ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED..

I agree with georgeky. That stripper arm has to run close enough to rub the bill hook to scrape the twine knot off the hook, but not too tight that it will bind on the way back. Adjust by bending with cresent wrench or prybar. Make sure you run it thru a cycle by hand after adjusting to see that it is not too tight. Might compare to the side that works to see how close to adjust it.

It likely is the wiper/knife arm. It has to contact the bill hook enough to wipe off the knot. There is no adjustment on it. They are adjustable though. You have to bend it a little to adjust it. If it ties a good knot at the same time as the other side I doubt if it is a timing issue. Empty the bale chamber and trip the trip arm to cycle the baler while someone else is rotating the flywheel and you can watch the knotter to see what is happening. You will have to hold a little pressure on the twine too for it to work. but it will show you what you need to know.

i am not a nh baler guy, but it sounds to me like the bill hook is out of time. you need to get a operators manual and set the timing on that knotter.

Both knotters are timed together and since it's making a knot (and his needles haven't been broken yet) then his knotters are probably in time. Just changing a billhook wouldn't change the timing. I agree with the guys about the knife/stripper arm needing to be adjusted. The arm should rub the bottom of the billhook. You can adjust/check this by just lifting the knotter assembly (like when you replaced the billhook) and watching the knife arm swipe the billhook.

Just bend the arm as needed with a crescent wrench. This is the procedure right from the NH manual. The arm should rub the hook and clear the end approx 3/8" inch. Compare it to the side that is working.

As for the "hook" tension, tighten the nut on the side until the spring starts to compress then add 2 turns.
