Further to my posts about ten days ago, for Allen in NE and other owners I've managed to repair the table spring tension adjuster that tore away from its rear mount. The solution was to cut a few inches off the threaded rod (7/8" UNC) which was partially worn thru by the mounting bracket and install a coupler and add a new rod. After repairing and reinforcing the rear spring mounting bracket, I simply took up the tension by turning the new rod. It worked pretty slick! BTW, the local NH dealer plus a welding shop didn't have a clue how to fix it - now you know. I mowed ten acres yesterday [after which we had a shower :~( ]and it worked great!

They are a sweet old mower, aren't they? :>)

I need to fill the one tire on mine with calcium so the header will "float" properly, but it is pretty much a cutting fool anyhoo.

If you think the 495 is a hay eater, wait till you upgrade to the 499 and stop running around in circles.!!!

I hear ya there. Don't like the circles one little bit.

Sure would like to have one of those self-propelled outfits, but my goodness, they want a lot of money for those things. :>)

No need to run in circles, just split the field down where ever you feel. As long as you can pick a straight line it works out just fine. You may run down a little bit, but a good mower can pick it up...
