This hub is on an antique John Deere dealership delivery trailer.

Is this a knock off dust cap or is it threaded and screw on/off?

It appears to be cast iron.

I want to remove it and check/replace the wheel bearings.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Threaded, those bumps on both sides of the D would be for a special wrench for removel. Don't think you will find any knock off in a cast type as the knock off to keep them tight depend on a bit of stretch in the steel and cast will not do that

Thanks for the information Leroy.

I am glad to know that the caps are steel rather than cast.

Cast can sometimes be "brittle" and crack/break even under careful removal.

I probably will start with a rubber mallet and wooden block for removal and "improvise" from there if necessary.

I certainly appreciate your help.

WAIT A MINUTE!!!! I DID NOT SAY THE CAP WAS STEEL. It IS a CAST cap and threaded. Those lips on the cap on both sides of the D are for a special wrench to turn it to losten it. I said a cast cap could not be a knock off at any time as the cast will not stretch and on the steel caps that are knock off they depend on stretch to hold them on.

Thanks for the update Leroy.

I will be much more careful removing the caps now that I know they are cast iron.

Any idea of what the "special" tool might look like?

Never seen one. If you look at it close those lips or protrusions are the only thing to get ahold of to turn it. I would guess that it was a sleeve that fit over the cap to hold it in place so thise protrusions could fit into a recsess in the top of the sleeve and with a handle. those protrusions would be easly broken off with just a wrench to try to grip them. A friend has one of those trailers and when I see him again (may be a while) and if I don't forget (Am very apt to) I can see if they ever had them off and how they did it if they did. His Dad used the trailer years ago as an implement jockey. I also know of anouther trailer that has meen restored.
