I purchased a Ford model 860 tractor last year, and with this tractor I got a post hole digger. It has a 12" auger, and the only label I could find on the gearbox is 'A Precision Research Development' label. The number on the gearbox is 4E373. I am looking for informaton on this impliment, as I am not sure I have it hooked up correctly. I am looking for any information. Thanks, Jim

i guess from the sound of your em its not taking the ground real well. you might have to find a replacement point for it or make one from one thats close to what you have. i don't know of any way you could hook it up wrong. you may have to add some weight to it to make it dig, especailly with that big of an auger. you might be able to find a 9 inch auger that will go on the gear box that you have and it will do fine for fence post. i had a machine shop make an adapter for one i have. it is for planting shrubs and trees and i had to get a sleeve machined to fit inside of the auger to reduce it down to my drive line. once i got it in line and tighten up, i welded the adapter in place to keep any slop out of it. worked fine. i would like to pass this on since i have the soap box right now. i had to put some holes in for a man once and he had red clay with gravel hauled in and it was impossible to get the digger to stay exactly where he wanted it. so i went home and took a piece of 12 inch pipe about 14 - 16 inches long. i took a piece of 3 inch channel and welded two pieces of that on to one end of the pipe. i didn't put a very big guesset on it so if it ever started spinning for some reason it wouldn't catch anybody. the two pieces were 180 degrees apart and had a hole in each end of it that a piece of steel rod would go through. i'd put the pipe over the spot the guy wanted the hole at and use two rods to drive into the ground through each hole in the channel and put the auger down inside of the pipe and then turn it on. the pipe kept the auger in exactly the right spot and worked great. after the hole was dug i'd remove the pipe and use the auger to clean out the hole good.
