any one ever used any Super Graze II Sorghum Sudangrass Hybrid for hay? how do u like it?
i have about 2 acres of it, laid some of it on the ground yesterday, will do the rest today.
looks just like corn without a big stalk, but is still going to take a while do dry. i think

When I was a kid back in Kansas some neighbors raised sudan grass for hay. It usually seemed like a better idea at planting than at baling. It was pretty tough to get it dry enough to keep in a bale even with crimpers and July heat. Once when I worked for a neighbor I baled some that worked really good. My Dad never liked it for hay because he wanted feed that matured in cool weather instead of maturing in the heat, although he liked it for grazing. We grew milo for grain in Kansas but here in Iowa some have grown a mix of milo/soybean for silage and really like it.

have not put out any sudan type grass for several years. I do not have a conditoner and could never beat it around enough with a tedder to get my old bailer to eat it. I have been raising pearl millet the last few years. I like it alot better, it will cure behind a disk mower better and get almost as much hay. Also millet will not kill cows after the first frost. If you don't get the last cutting you can graze it way up in the fall.

we used a simmilar forage called milo two years ago. after cutting, we let the crop dry to about 40 percent moisture then rolled and wrapped in plastic. that winter it had a super good silage smell and the cattle would eat it like crazy. we,ve never put any up as dry hay.
