What can I use in a small or hand sprayer to rid my place of some horse nittle? 2 4 d doesn't quite kill it.

I have found a product called Pathway that is supposed to be a generic version of Crossbow. Seems to work so far and is cheaper.

My favorite wife has sprayed our bull nettle with both 2 4 D and Roundup.

Neither seems to kill it, so she has switched to Remedy that is available at TSC.

Price will be around $90 per gallon and mix rate is 4 ounces per gallon of water.

This makes up approximately 32 gallons of �spray�.

You will not need a chemical license to purchase Remedy at TSC.

Remedy is non-selective and will kill everything it touches.

The tap roots on the bull nettle can be as big as your arm.

I dug up several with a �sharp shooter� shovel and even pulled a few up with her JD 48A.

Hope this helps and good luck getting rid of your horse nettle.

if your horse nettle is anything like bull nettle [big leaves,spiny stem,white flowers] Grazon P&D works great but its restricted use...gotta be licensed or know somebody that is.

Also, we have had some success with a mix of 1 quart 2,4-D [amine] and 1 cup Banvel or Sterling ["generic" Banvel] in 10 gallons of water. This is selective, it only seems to trouble the broadleaf stuff.

The trouble with Banvel and Crossbow is mostly the price tag.

We are plagued with nettles, blackberry briar, burdock, plum trees and thistle. Early in July we started hitting it with an herbicide called Crossbow that we got at farm bureau. You mix it with diesel or fuel oil. You can also mix it with water, but it doesn't seem to do as well that way. It also helps if you can slit the bark at the base of the plant and get it in the sap. I guess that's more of a tree technique. It's nasty, but it seems to do a pretty good job, even way-post-emergent. It will be good to see how well it works earlier in the year, when you should spray... I just didn't have time this spring :-(

Like Roundup, it's non-selective.

Roundup will kill it but will also kill every thing around the horsenettle.

Horsenettle is a tuff weed.

I've been fighting it in my crop fields for years.

I just switched to Roundup Ready soybeans to try and bring the horsenettle under control.

We always called it "Bull-Nettle". Or, are we talking about two different weeds?
