I'm trying to get some information on the Ford 552 Round Roller, I think it's made by Gehl, I'm wondering what Gehl baler is its equal and what horsepower tractor would you need to pull it? Thanks in advance for any and all help.

Two local farmers here had them and both pulled them with 3600 Fords. They were about 40 HP. I am sure the 50 or bigger will be better.

I saw a ford round baler at a sale and it was exactly like my 1400 Gehl. I have pulled mine with a 50 HP 4000 ford. I have some very hilly fields and it worked OK but, you knew it was behind the tractor. I now pull it with a ford 5610 65 HP and it will handle any hill. its much better with the added HP. the 50 HP would be fine on level fields

It is the Gehl 1500. I run mine with a JD4010 turbo. You may not want to go much less than 65-75 hp. A smaller tractor may run it but I think it will work it harder than I want to work one.
Like the old saying goes thats my opinion and everybody has one.
The Gehl 1500A is like it also
