Urgent JD 342 A baler info/manual/diagrams needed!

Hi All,

A non-internet using friend of mine farms & has a JD 342 A baler (Jd manual ref ET 145) He needs a maintenance & repair manual in French, but I'm told by JD France that it is not available.

The baler runs, but just shoves out a mess of twine & hay. If I remember correctly, when facing the power take off, there is a lid thing on the right hand side, & if you lift it there is a hefty-ish spring that seems short/broken off which himself thinks could be the problem. He says (I'm translating from 2nd rate french into no knowledge at all of farm gear english) that the big arm thing on the ?undercarriage should lift up but it won't budge.

If anyone could bale me out with advice, a copy of the manual or even a diagram showing/naming parts it would save much swearing :-)

Please excuse my ignorance, but I'd like to help "bale" the my friend out and have looked all over online - then I found here! Thanks in advance for any info, english or ideally french

He needs an operators manual. That should include all he needs for maintenance and repair. The dealer will have a parts catalog he can reference for parts. A dealer is his first line of communication.

European machines are somewhat different that USA. But manual situation should be the same.

Yep Roger, he does! But the dealership I phoned said they couldn't get a manual, and I got the impression the baler is so old that maybe the manual is out of print or something? Friend said he would pass by the dealer; he isn't daft enough to mess with it running & you don't get very far with it dis-connected!

Try another dealer. Having worked for Deere, particularily with service and publications, I cannot believe a manual is not available. Also, basic balers have not changed for 30+ years. Almost any baler manual should show the parts/area of concern.

It sounds like the needle frame is being blocked or isn't operating right. Hard to know without a better description. The euro balers have a few different safety features than the US ones from what I can tell.

err, umm, yeah... what you say kind of fits in with what I (think) I saw & what himself was muttering. trouble is I don't speak farm very well! This is where a part naming diagram would help!

It does nothing but rain this year and goodness know what we will all do for hay!

If you do a Google.com scan you might be able to come up with the manual. Here's the address of someone selling an english version - found it pretty quickly using Google. No gurantees they'll still have it but it's a starting point.

No charge, just sign up and in search by model go to baler, and 342. I checked to see it as there, it is. blow up pictures and part numbers etc. Order on line or through a JD dealer. Luck.
