Not that I am any expert on handling large squares and or round bales, but after recently spending a 12 hour day in the field, gathering up what I am told now was over 200 large squares and 100 small rounds with a late model Massey Ferguson with a FEL and regular pallet forks, I can honestly say that regular pallet forks can work, but when the quick tach double bale spear arrived, and I started using it, there certainly was no doubt in my mind that using pallet forks for these large bales is like eating potato chips with a fork LOL ! You may very well need a set of forks for other tasks, but after stuffing all those large squares onto a truck, 14 per load, and seeing the difference it makes in the time it takes to load, the choice is obvious. Mind you, before that day, I had never handled a large bale, and no I'm not any self annointed expert after one long day, but I have always learned very quickly when around tractors and heavy equipment. The farmer whom I helped had just started getting into the larger bales, and was kind of struggling using the forks to load as I watched, was tougher to back out when stacking sometimes and if you are not careful in the field you'll get a thick slice of dirt under the bale if you do not level your forks to the ground, which on this tractor was hard to see, that and potentially breaking twine if not careful. The person who baled these fields, brought the spear to me in the field, but having only one set, he still used the pallet forks on the skidsteer back at the barns, to stack. Few photos:

I did sometimes use the spears as a fork, by getting under a round on the flat, as I could not shove in 2 on top, the big bolts for the steel door on the truck were hanging things up, and with the reach of this tractor, I could not lift high enough to get enough tilt to back out and not lose the bale, was a learning experience, but still a very productive day
