Safety check on the ROPS!

I was mowing with my Woods zero turn front mower, when I noticed the seat belt seemed to tighten when I stopped quickly. Couldn't figure out why at first. Then I discovered that 3 of the 4 bolts that hold on the ROPS system (where the seat belt attaches) had completely fallen out. I can't figure out how it stayed on with just one, but it did. The bolt system seems OK from an engineering point of view. The 4 bolts are 5/8" and would have had lock washers. Not sure how they came out, but I put the new ones in with Locktite and nylon lock nuts. Had I rolled the mower on it's side, I don't think I would have had much protection.

Moral to this story: check the ROPS attachment systems on your tractors/mowers every now and then...I know I will from now on.

Check to see if you used at least # 5 if not 8 on the bolts and nuts. Too many failures with the grade 2.

Good advice. Had an old GMC truck with 200,000 miles on it. I thought to look under it to see if everything was OK one day. The nuts had come off the lower control arm on one side. It would have been a wreak if I had not seen it before the arm dropped down at 60 mph.
