Packer Wheels in reply to rusty iron, 07-15-2007 16:29:11
When someone finds these wheels in aftermarket, they should post. I've tried here in WA state and they're just not here. They're made in several sizes and I'm looking for something in 12-14" od and maybe 10" Id. I only have 35 hp and probably could only pull something 6 or 7 ft. There are a couple of us with small 35 hp tractors that do custom tilling. Most of the work is 1/2 acre garden prep and they like the looks that the roller packer does when the compitition does the job and very often the "no Wheel Tracks" controversy arises,(bunch of fussy ol' farts). So if I want the work I'll have invest in a roller packer. The local Brillion dealer could order some but truly astronomical in price with shipping. Schmizer is the brand that the big farmers around me seem to like and they use some large wheels maybe 20" OD. or bigger and if there happens to be any replacement wheel inventory available here locally it's usually their size range. bjr

Here's a link to some cultipackers and what they look like freshly painted.

Look in the archives for packer replacement wheels - I saw something on that a few days or weeks ago.

Need to know model of unit, Single roller or double roller and if double is front roller a larger roller than rear roller? Also the outside diameter, diameter on small edge of roller and axle size. I may have what you need but they are heavy so shipping would be expencive. And Color is a ? I have seen them Red, orange and green, have all colors here now and I think the disc harrows were some of them blue. I am in Ohio.

I looked at my cultipacker. the only thing that i could find close to a model number was 704. I believe the the largest o.d. was 18 inches. the smalled o.d. was 14 inches. and the axle size was around 1.76 inches but the rust may have been throwing my micrometer off and it may have been just 1.75. and it is a single axle roller. if this matches up to the parts that you have how much would you want to sell them for?

That sounds without going out to check the size of all the standard size roller packers and the drag type cultimulchers. The going rate around here I think is about $3-4 per wheel, I would have to check that out tho. The weight of them would probably be in the range of 5 times the price of the wheel or more depending on where you are. Could very well cost more than the packer did. If interested let me know with an address that I could check for actual costs for both just exactly what the going rate per wheel is and what shipping would cost and for sure how many wheels you would need.
