I know, no one likes 'em. (%^) But I got 1. Only $300.00 in it, so if I can get it to bale with less than $100 more in it, what the heck. I searched it here and found a few that are working them and trying new ideas with them. I was wondering if any worked. Bed liner on press roll, consistent belt length (I have 1 belt shorter than the others), etc. TIA

I have one - I did make all my belts the same length -

I actually went to the JD dealer and got some throw away and used belts from JD baelrs for $20 - ran them thru the bandsaw to make them exactly as wide as would fit in the slot and made a couple new belts - still could use some more but OK for this year -

I tried a spray can of bed liner stuff on the belt driving rolls - it might have helped - but it didn't stick to good - there are beter sticker even two part mixed bed liners - my neighbor has a better kind - i might out that on the steell press oll also

this how i make mine work - and i know everyone will shudder - when empty the long belts won't spin - that is the way they are supposed to be - so i find a really wide windrow or big bunch - run that in - if the belts don't start spinning - i get off and go behind it - and give the blets a pull downward - then they start to spin the roll of hay or i might have to repeat the procedure -

once the belts are spinning the press roll and everything is perfect no problems and can eat a lot of stuff -

i think the biggest problem with mine is the narrow belts are SO old and slick tehy have no rubber sticky feel to them - after replacing one with a new TSC one - and 2 of the old JD Oones it is much better - am trying to find $40 or so more in used bels so i can replace more - then it should be perfect -

this year i even started net wrapping with it - a long story u can email if interested

of course i still have the allis 442 small square as backup - and it has been used more than i hoped this year - my shed is pretty much full of small squares

i did have a couple of cam roller bearings i had to fix up - that was my last problem - now it is going in the shed til next year - going to square bale the 3rd alfalfa cutting and call it good for the year

you guys are making me feel old, since i had one of these and it was probably the second year that they were out. when you stop the baler to tie off stop it on one side of the windrow and be sitting at an angle to it as much as you can. after you tie off and dump, pull forward and cut across the windrow asap and get a little bit of hay going through the baler all the way across the baler. this helped me alot, but until i learned that i sure was an unhappy camper. lots of luck. you know if you could get it to work at least half way it would be worth it if you had to get another baler just to have that one whee you could use it as a spare in case the other one tore up. lot of luck

I got a new 2400 in 1980 and it is still going. Like you said if you don't feed the edge on one side and cross the windrow immediately you will have problems. As long as the edges are fed the middle will take care of itself. I forgot to tell him that it has to make a core before the upper belts will turn at all.

Don, that is a common problem for the 241. It has a smooth steel roller in the throat that doesn't take real dry hay well. Cracking th tailgate open just a little will allow it to start feeding, then close the gate again. There is an after market tape that can be put on that roller to help with this and it works quite well. The 2400 which is the improved version of the 241 has a rubber roller in it and does not have this problem. I may get in trouble, but call Brad Marshall and he will send you the tape kit. Not sure what it cost, but not to high.1-888-824-0544.

It don't matter at all about that belt. These are fair old machines. Put your short belt in the middle it will be fine. My old 241 done a lot better job after all my belts were 2-4 inches shorter than suppose to be. Seemed like it rolled twice as tight a roll. Get a manual as there are adjustments that need to be made for some crop conditions or it will be hard to start a roll with.

That is worth a try. It came with with a manual and I've been reading it. Everything is turning, except the upper belts when feeding. Just gets a arm size roll and stops feeding. I can lightly push the shorter belt and they all start turning, but still doesn't feed. Bermuda and johnson mix, dry. Light windrow. Pickup fingers bend as they try to feed. The press roll has been raised, don't know what the opening size is. I wasn't there when they did it. Thanks. DON TX
