case IH 445 baler trip arm again

The baler bales then makes both long and mini bales any ideas? It was slipping in the groove (long bales) now its making mini's. and some of correct size.

The problem was the wheel on the trip arm it did not alow it to fall after tripping.

I used to have trouble with my IH #47 baler making too long of a bale. On the #47 the "pulley" that ran the trip arm up(star whell on one end, pulley on other with trip arm riding in pulley) was made of 2 outer pulley halves with a replaceable bushing in the center. This bushing was grooved and the grooves would wear, Turning the bushiung around , or replacing it would solve the long bale problem. Not sure if the newer IH balers are like this but hope it helps. Nothing worse than a too-long bale stuck in the thrower, smoking the belts till I shut it down.

how you rake your windrows sometimes determines how well your baler works. if you do like some people and just rake straight up and down in the field and don't have continously feeding into the baler then each time the plunger hits a lick it causes the wheel to turn ever so slightly, but yet enough to make the length of the bale either long or short. raking the field where you are always feeding hay into the baler is best. ground speed can also play a role here. if you've got some thincker places in the field and you run in a gear to match those places and don't upshift in thinnner places then you have the same problem with the plunger coming back and making the star wheel move a liitle bit more each time without much hay coming in. not making pretty dense bales will also cause this problem. if you have places where the guy raking piles the hay up at the turns then when the baler gets to these places it will grab a bunch of hay in real fast and push the hay real fast into a bale and make it shoot more hay into a bale, making for long bales. i had a 440 ih that did that alot and i sometimes think that replacing the star wheel might have helped, but most of it was in the way you rake and bale in my opinion.
