third party image

the picture reveals the horror. the spline/shaft connecting the drive assembly and friction clutch to the gear box assembly inexplicably broke.

would my broken part come with a new drive assembly or a new gear box?...is there any hope of obtaining either?...from where?

thanks in advance for any help or advice,
lh

Don't know if this will help you or not; see my post "old shredder." Not the same but might adapt (unless you're trying to "stay original").

i believe the broken shaft is available from a ford implement dealer (new holland ) close to $300 i was told. i have 2 of these i am making 1 good 1 from the 2 . 1 with a good deck (broken shaft like yours and 1 with a good gear box . i was given free the 1 with the broken shaft for parts the other i paid $25 .

A good machine shop can make you a new shaft since you have all of the original to copy. It won't be cheap, but it might be less than a new on from the factory.

i would expect the gear box to come completely assembled if you can get it at all. you might luck up and find one in a junk yard, but if i were you, i'd be looking at a new/used unit ready to go. it would be nice to salvage what you can from the old one, blades, wheels, drive shafts but beyond that i'd kiss it good bye.
