Does anyone know of any operational updates to the Vermeer 403F baler. We are using three nine inch belts but we are having to manually having start each new bale. The belts are not turning until they are manually loaded with hay.

Do you really want an answer, or just talk about it. Call Vermeer and ask them . They have the best customer service there is. Explain what you need to the receptionist, and she will connect you to the person with the answers. They really want their equipment to work right for their customers. No BS. BTDT. I don't have their number right now, but they are in Iowa. I don't remember the town. Call them direct. The best help you could ever get. Wayne

I've had a 403 F for many years and have the 4 inch belts, so mine may be a bit different. It is possible that the belt-like flaps on the front roller are worn. Also, if the hay is very dry and stemmy, one may have to enter the windrow with the baler not turning to develop a small charge of hay under the pick-up teeth and then start the pto. I had to do this in some past years as well as over the past weekend, and it worked well.

Haven't seen a smaller baler like that - I have a 605F.

Manually load? How do you do that? I& Please don't say with the baler running!

It is common for the big baler to not spin the belts until it gets the triangle of hay loaded.

What shape are your tines & the flaps in? Common problems for starting a bale.

Belts may be too long. If you don't have time to shorten them to specifications shown in the manual, you might get them to turning by spraying belt dressing on them(carefully) or spraying the belt dressing on the drive rollers(very carefully).

Check your rollers and bearings for any that are bad and keeping the belts from spinning....

Do you have a manual for that baler? Vermeer will send you one for free, just call them.

You can get the number off their website:

www.vermeerag.com

But it sounds to me like the belts are to long or you don't have enough starting tension on the belts.
