Neighbour just bought a Case/IH 8430 rounder and it was dropped in her yard with no instruction manual or lessons. We will be putting it into use before one can arrive via ebay or other seller, anyone have any tips?

I've never actually run a rounder before but assume the process is like this:

-close gate until it latches using the hydraulics.
-start it rolling, weave back and forth on windrow once bale starts so the chamber fills evenly.
-Once bale indicator shows full (don't know yet if it is electric box or spring type indicator) leave the windrow and engage the tie mechanism (electric hydraulic or manual etc)
-I assume this lets some twine fall into the chamber with the turning bale and lets it go until a bunch of wraps are made.
-Open the rear gate to eject the bale
-start over

Any other info for a round bale newbie?

I have a Heston 5530, which is basically the same baler as the CIH 8420. When you start baling, go across a windrow end to get the grass rolling perpendicular to the belts, starts the bales rolling faster. Check for bent pickup reel bars if the bales don't start easy-you can un-bend them with a come-a-long attached to the upper bale chamber. Sharpen the twine knife with a small file each spring-its on the left front side of the baler. Safety First! if you work on the baler while its open, engage the safety latches at the tops of the hydraulic cylinders. If you need to release the tension on the belts there are 2 pins hanging on the sides of the baler that go into 2 holes on the sides of the baler. That's about all I have had experience with on this baler. Good Luck!

Your steps are basically what I go through with my round baler except it is net wrap and that step is done automatically. One thing I learned that has helped me to avoid problems is to begin slow when starting a new bale until the bale starts to form. You should see the hay feeding in much faster when the roll gets formed, then you can pickup the speed some. Depending on the thickness of windrow of course.
