This baler is starting to tick me off. after having to cut every knot off the bill hook last year, we tinkered with the knotters this year.

We got it to work beutifully! For the first time in the two years we used it, we finally got the knotters to work flawlessly.

Then we ran one out of string.

Now it's back to square one for that knotter! the bloody damn knot will not go off the bill hook!

I'm starting to get really miffed over that. We followed the manual to the letter, and the damn thing still won't work! do you guys have any ideas on why the knotter won't wipe the knot off?

I agree with some of the others. Your stripper arm is not contacting the bill hook exactly right. You can adjust them by bending them. Did you use the same string as before? My old Ford baler wouldn't work well with nothing but, 9000 ft Southern States Gold Label twine. If you find one that works well stay with that brand.

I had that exact same problem on my Massey Ferguson 12. When I got it I tried using sisal 7200, as I'd heard the thicker the twine, the easier it is to knot. It would sometimes bale 15-20 bales flawlessly then the knot wouldn't slip off the billhook and the twine would all ball up. Of course this was on the inside knotter, where it was real fun to get to and get off. I then tried plasic 9600 and it has not missed a knot yet so far 500+ and counting (knock on wood). I would suggest trying some smaller twine, possibly even plastic. seems to me, at least, that it slips off the bill hook easier.

I would suspect that the stripper needs to be bent in towards the billhook. Check that to see if it's JUST making contact. If not, then it will ride over the string.
I adjusted that last year on mine, the slightest amount, and it made a world of difference. This is assuming that there is not too much tension on the twine finger on the billhook. If that won't release, then nothing is going to strip the know off.

Just picked up a 532 to replace my even older 250 which I have been using since 1983. The knotters look identical. Had issues similar to yours right after I bought it and if I remember correctly we determined that the stripper was not contacting the bill hook and was passing over the twine without stripping it off the bill hook. My 250 works great with 9000 ft sissal, but horrible with 10,000 ft. If the stripper rides too heavily on the bill hook it will cause excessive wear on the knotters. Ops manual shows how to adjust. I also have the 530 manual which has a great description of knotter adjustments. Email me if you need a copy - I can scan in and email to you.

Take a look at the twine. Does it look larger than what you used while it was working well? I have had some issues with twine quality. Both large and small at times. I cannot imagine just switching balls of twine causing an issue unless the twine is thicker. I assume you are using sisal and not plastic as I am. I use a 532, but have not had any real issues with this so I may not be of any help other than the twine itself, although you can adjust the bill hook tension.
