I've baled for years and still don't have it all down. I bale the outside row last but have to walk the entire outside of the field and move bales to do it. I'm confident those that know what they are doing don't do it that way. What the heck am I doing wrong?

single rake the outside row first. then either double rake the next windrow or 1 and 1/2 rakes wide and that should do the trick for you. i'd still bale the outside row last if its a field that has trees around it. that outside row is just the last one to cure out , even though its cut first. i really prefer to bush hog the outside edge a day or two before i cut the hay on the rest of the field and not even rake it.

We stack on the wagon right behind the baler so we don't have those problems.

I'd always just double rake the 2 outside rounds so we wouldn't have to try and go backwards and all that, and the rake was just too wide to try and do them single with a 9' cut.

Now we've got a 14' Hesston 1014+2 Hydro-swing so we can rake just the outside one inward, the next one out, and they won't hit if I ride the left tire just off the hay. It helps that with our wheel rake that we can adjust the tounge to swing it one way or the other, so we can rake double or single and still ride over the middle and only get each one once.

Ok , I'm guessing your talking small squares baled on the ground . If you have a rolla bar rake ( side delivery ) that throws left just try raking the two outside rows inward ( counterclockwise ) . I rake my field in that direction anyway since that's the way I cut it so all my rows are raked inward . That leaves enough room for the baler to go round clockwise . Works for me . ...Randy
