I have read about sharpening the knife arm knife on the knotter. I do have both parts and operators manuals, but I cant for the life of me figure out how to sharpen the knife that cuts the twine. Any help? Photos would sure help

You can flip up the knotters and maybe get a better angle for the knives. I've used a carbide high speed bit in my pneumatic die grinder and had good results with sharpening. You can get new knives that bolt in cheaply from New Holland. Most of the old ones were riveted in, so you'll have to grind off the rivet to put the new one in.

Don"t waste your time. NH sells replacement bolt in knives.

So I should get the old ones with rivets ground off and bolt on the new ones. Got it. Ordered from NH just now.

On the flipping up of the knotter, does that at all impact the twine and maybe make it not tie when its put back down. I know what bolt you mean to lift it. I undid it last night and it only pulled up so far. Do I need to unbolt both at same time? I am scarred to muck with it too much. I dont want to get sideways on this.

thanks guys. I would love to be able to comfortbable flip these up to inspect and study it a bit but I hit some resistenence and stopped. It was just twine tension resistence I think.

No, the knotters will flip up individually. The knotters get harder to flip up at a certain point. Just pull up harder with your hands(don't pound). Flipping the knotters up doesn't mess up timing. When you get to double knotter on hesston big square balers, it is usually a must to flip the knotter up to clean them out after certain miss functions and rethread. Hesston actually uses a pin with a hair pin for convenience.
