There's an easier way.

Open the plunger pushrod cover an you'll see two marks to set the arm between to put it in a vertical position.
Then go back and open the door to the tine bar. On the deck you'll see two notches. When the arm is set in the upright position, the link which connects the time bar to the drive chain must be between those marks. That'll time your tine bar.

That will time the feeder, not the needles.

He said he broke all the shear bolts. He oughta check the timing on both.

If it times like a 67 NH hay liner. I might be able to help. Needles when in time, with plunger . just begin to enter bale chamber when the tips on plunger pass the needle points by 1/4-3/4 inch. rotate the fly wheel till the plunger crank is vertical between the marks on side frame. Remove knotter drive chain..Make sure the knotter clutch pawl is tight aginst the knotter stop. (Pull upward on needle yoke to make this happen). You will have 2 marks on the knotter drive clutch housing they should be in line. Put the knotter drive chain back and tighten idler make sure marks don't move rotate by hand through cycle. watch for needle entry time. If I can help please e-mail,, Thanks
