Just finished doing all of our hay using a bale basket and am ready to say, "Its the best invention in the history of mankind!" It took a couple of loads to learn how to use it properly but it work like a charm once I got used to it. Doug

My bale basket will hold about 90 bales easily. Sometimes I get more than that though, it can be up to 120 bales but it depends on how they loaded themselves. A couple of times I got up and moved them around so I could get more loaded but that was when it was threatning to rain. I don't have to unhook mine in the field but its easy to do. Just back up the baler so that is close and hook up. Mine has a sliding tongue on it so I can extend it and put the pin in and then back everything up and the tongue locks into the proper position. The only cost besides the basket itself was the hitch that goes on the baler. But I think you only need to buy that if you have a NH baler.

Yup.

They cost about what a thrower rack costs.

I unhooked mine & backed it to the barn the fist cutting I used it. That got old.

Since then I just leave it hooked together & back it up with baler & all. Sort of like back a train up with no tracks, but notr too bad. All my hay is close to the barn, 1/2 mile or less.

Easier to take bales away from than a thrower rack. They do leave a scattered mess if you wish to dump the bales on the ground & leave with the rack again tho. Person stacking has to walk a bit to get them all. But if you do it like a thrower rack & just pick the bales from the open back gate, easier.

I've heard good things about them but never seen one out here in Md. A few questions please: How many bales do they hold? Are they easy to unload and hook back up in field? what are costs?
